Testimonial – Why Join the Leander Chamber?

“I wish I had joined the Leander Chamber of Commerce when I first moved to Leander.  I had no idea how many contacts I would make and how helpful the Chamber is to local businesses.  Not only did my business benefit from the exposure but I am able to rely on businesses within the chamber for most of my own business needs.  I like being able to “shop and buy” local.  I trust the businesses that are listed in the Chamber and love being able to refer my own clients to many of those businesses.  The Chamber provides a real sense of community but still retains that small town appeal that drew most of us to this area.  The […]

Getting the Most Out of Your Membership

After starting his brand new business in 2012, Steve Reilly of ReillyCo Advertising asked himself questions like, “Where should I spend my resources?” and “How much time do I have to devote?”

After deciding to join the Leander Chamber in 2013, though Leander was small and much fewer members than the Austin Chamber that he had previously been involved in, Reilly recognized the “vision or ‘mojo’” Leander had for the future of business and supporting members.

Flash forward 7 years, Reilly’s advice for how to get the most out of your membership begins with setting a realistic goal of what you expect to bring to the chamber. He believes “you have to give to get” and the key to networking is about […]

Tips for Giving Your Home-Based Business the Perfect Space it Deserves

Whether you’ve already started running a business from your home or you’re thinking about your next move, you’ll need to make sure the location is right. The space requirements can vary from one business to another, so it’s vital to know what you’re getting into. Your business of choice could even be the deciding factor between staying put and moving to another house.

When to Redesign

You can redesign an existing room in your home if your business doesn’t need a lot of space. Some of the businesses that can fit into a room include running an e-commerce business, freelancing, and graphic design. If you’re meeting with clients, make sure to factor that into the layout you’ll need when designing […]

This guest post was originally published at Alliance Virtual Offices

When you start a business, you want it to have a professional image. That means a proper address and phone number in an area that is well-respected.

If that sounds pricey to you, you’re not alone.

Lots of new business owners think that in order to give their start up a corporate image, they need to break the bank by leasing fancy offices in the best part of town. But this doesn’t have to be the case.

With a virtual office, you can get the professional image your new business needs without having to lease or buy expensive office space. You can rest easy knowing that you don’t […]

State Lawmakers To Increase School Funding And Lower Property Taxes

The 86th Texas Legislature convened and concluded with shared priorities including public school funding and property tax reform.

Here’s a little breakdown of the two big bills:

Senate Bill 2 – Property Taxes
The Governor signed Senate Bill 2 (by Sen. Bettencourt – Houston) on June 12. The new law lowers the current 8 percent revenue cap to 3.5 percent, triggering an automatic election if the tax rate is exceeded. Taxing units would not be required to hold an election if they are going beyond the 3.5 percent cap in response to a natural disaster. The new law also prohibits taxing entities from adopting a future budget or taking any action that decreases the compensation of first responders. The […]

Article by Bankrate

The number of women-owned businesses in the United States has seen huge growth. In fact, women are opening an average of 849 new businesses per day.

Women-owned businesses increased a dramatic 31 times over the past 46 years, according to the 2018 State of Women-Owned Businesses Report commissioned by American Express.  Between 1972 and 2018, they’ve risen from 402,000 (4.6% of all firms) in 1972 to 12.3 million (40% of all firms) in 2018.

Despite the numbers and what looks like success on paper, women-owned businesses actively fail to represent a larger portion of the total employment […]
